Why consign?
The best items for consignment are those that you value and do not want to give away, but no longer have use or space for.
What does J. Scotts accept on consignment?
We accept women’s upscale new or gently worn designer clothing, shoes, purses, belts, jewelry, sunglasses, and wedding attire. See our clothing and gowns directories.
Do you buy items outright?
Yes, for exceptional items we may offer to purchase them outright. Please go to the Consign page and fill out the Consignment Inquiry form. We will respond within 48 hours.
How do you determine authenticity?
Designer items that are placed for sale at J. Scotts must pass an authenticity inspection. We contract with authenticity experts to review and analyze items.
How do you assess the condition of items for consignment?
Upon receipt items are carefully to assessed for quality. An accepted item goes into one of three categories: New, Excellent, and Very Good.
Newwith Tags (NWT):
These are items that have never been worn and still possesses original tags.
Excellent Condition:
These item show no signs of being worn, but no longer has tags. Clothing is in perfect condition. Shoes, boots, and handbags may have been worn, but only have light scuffing on the soles, but the material is in perfect condition. Jewelry shows no signs of being worn.
Very Good Condition:
Clothing items show signs of being dry cleaned and a very small, barely noticeable stain or snag. Shoes and handbags have been worn/used, but shoes and boots have sole scuffing and handbags may have slightly worn corners. Jewelry may have slight scratches on the gold or silver, but the stones are still perfect.
Are items clean?
We require that items be without stains or smells prior to accepting them. We request that they are either laundered or dry-cleaned. Although we carefully inspect every item, we cannot guarantee they have been cleaned immediately prior to submission.
When will my consigned items be posted for sale?
Items are placed for sale online between 5 to 7 business days from the date they are received.
How long is the consignment period?
For general apparel and accessories, the consignment period is 90 days. For bridal wear it is 120 days. With bridal you have the option of renewing for an additional 60 days.
How do you price items for sale?
While we do not have a standard formula, we take the following factors into consideration: quality and uniqueness of items, demand for the items, the condition of the items, the original selling price, and current sale prices of similar items in stores and online.
What are your consignment rates?
We offer a 55/45 split (55% to you and 45% to J. Scotts) for General Members and a 60/40 split for First Look Members.
How much is membership?
General Membership is FREE! First Look Membership is $3 per month or $30 for 1 year and you will have access to all new items and 24 hours before general membership.
Can I track my sales as a consignor?
Members will receive access to an online account that they can use to track their sales.
When do I get paid for my sold items?
J. Scotts Boutique issues checks the 15th day of the month or immediately following if this date falls on a weekend or holiday.
What happens if I want my items back prior to the end of the consignment period?
You can request your items back at any time; however, because we incur costs to catalog and photograph your items, there will be a fee of $15 per item to cover our costs, and return shipping is at your expense.
What happens to my items if they do not sell?
If your item(s) does not sell you have two options, which are outlined in the consignment contract: have the item(s) returned at our expense or donate them to a local charity. Items that are not claimed within 7 business days after the consignment period expires or which are not slated for donation become the sole property of J. Scotts Boutique.
Do you sell new items?
Yes, approximately 35% of J. Scotts inventory consists of store-owned, new items.
What is your return policy?
Returns will be accepted on clothing, shoes, and bridal gowns for a refund within 7 days of shipment and must be shipped to us within 10 days of original shipment with a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). An RMA number can be requested by simply emailing returns@JScottsonline.com with "RMA Request" in the subject line. You will then be emailed an RMA number and a shipping label to return the clothing. You must add your postage to the package. All items returned must be in the same condition as when it was received. Returns without an RMA# will not be accepted. All sales on accessories (i.e. handbags, belts, luggage, jewelry, small leather goods, key chains, briefcases, and jewelry) are Final Sales and no returns will be accepted. We do offer you the opportunity to resell your purchased items as a consignor. Funds will either be mailed ad check within 30 days of receipt or credited to your account.
Do you ever have men's or children's items?
Currently with the exception of some flower girls dresses, are merchandise is geared toward women; however, there are plans to expand to include these segments of market in the very near future. Please check back.
Do you offer layaway?
Yes, for 30 days with at least a 25% deposit. All sales are FINAL on layaway items.
